IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE 2020 FIESTA 5K!

Packard Center News
May 2 Fiesta 5K is transitioning to a virtual event

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE 2020 FIESTA 5K!

Given the outbreak of COVID-19, we have made the decision to transition the 2020 Fiesta 5K for ALS Research to a virtual event. We believe that moving the Fiesta 5K for ALS Research, which was to be held in downtown Baltimore on Saturday, May 2, to a virtual event is the smartest and best option to ensure the health and safety of our participants, sponsors, vendors and volunteers.

Thank you for your unwavering support for the Packard Center and the Fiesta 5K. In the thirteen years since the event’s inception, $3.5 million has been raised for ALS research. We know how much our teams, families, and runners look forward to this annual event, and how hard each of you work to raise funds critical to ALS research. We share in your disappointment at not being able to join together in person to support our shared mission but invite you to participate in a whole new way!

Since it will not be possible to reschedule our event at any time in the near future, we encourage you, your teammates, friends and family to keep the spirit of the Fiesta 5K alive this year!  Start a team, join a team or just sign up to be a virtual runner! The Fiesta 5K was created to bring awareness to a rare and devastating disease, and provide funds for our shared mission of solving ALS.  We CAN still keep the spirit of the event alive and urge you to host virtual Fiesta 5Ks wherever you are located. Our team is working to build a fun-filled virtual event so we can all show our support for the ALS community. So please, put on your team shirt…run or walk in your neighborhood…make a sign…have a virtual family fiesta!  Then tweet us a photo using the hashtag #fiesta5k, post on our Facebook page, or email the photo to sconnel6@jhmi.edu for inclusion in an upcoming newsletter.

We will stay in touch in the coming weeks with ideas on how you and your team can host a virtual Fiesta 5K and still support the critical work of the Packard Center.

The Fiesta 5K website (www.fiesta5k.org) will remain open through June 30, 2020 for donations.  As always, proceeds from this event are a major part of our research budget.  We hope you will start a team and continue to fundraise over the next six weeks.  Checks can be mailed to 855 N. Wolfe Street, Room 223, Baltimore, MD 21205, Attn: Fiesta 5K.  We will continue to post them to team sites.

Thank you for your understanding in these difficult times, and for your support of the Packard Center. Our work would not be possible without you.

For questions or concerns, please email our race director, Suzie Connelly at sconnel6@jhmi.edu
