Annual Fiesta 5K another success!

Annual run, held in downtown Baltimore, engages ALS community and raises funds for research.

On a recent sunny Saturday morning, 700 people laced up their running shoes and headed to Power Plant Live! in downtown Baltimore to raise money and show their support for the Robert Packard Center's 13th annual Fiesta 5K for ALS Research.  The event raised just over $130,000.

Since its inception in 2007, the Fiesta 5K has raised more than $3.4 million for ALS research. Packard Center Director Jeffrey Rothstein, M.D., Ph.D., says the race was developed to alert the local community about the Center's innovative work. "The Fiesta 5K has become an important way to rally the ALS community in and around Baltimore.  Our goal is simple - we want to make people more aware of ALS and raise funds to support our efforts toward a cure," Rothstein said.

This year’s event was sponsored by I Heart Radio and WPOC 93.1.  Baltimore radio personality Michael J. served as the master of ceremonies and engaged the crowd throughout the day. Other Fiesta 5K sponsors included: GI Partners, Lincoln Financial Group, Morgan Stanley, Power Plant Live, Luckies Tavern, One Rock Studio, Mt. Washington Conference Center, Giant Food and Panera.  Volunteers were members of Hopkins in Action, an employee and alumni community service program within Johns Hopkins University.

Awards were given to the following:

Largest Team: Fields Road Elementary School Running Club

Highest Team Fundraising: Team Nelly

Highest Individual Fundraiser: Alisa Hoffman
